3 Dated Technologies That You Need To Ditch Now

Posted by David Watson . on June 24, 2016

Have you ever been in that situation to where you are trying to take a picture of something, downloading a game, app, or just simply try to do something completely normal and your phone wont let you because it’s apparently full and cant hold anymore? Well this has happened to me about a thousand times. It really gets annoying when I want to keep doing things but the “storage” is all filled up. It got me thinking about technology in general. Why are there things in this world that still exist when there are alternatives that are cost efficient and even better. For example storage, we don’t technically need storage for our phones or computers anymore! Think about it… apps like DropBox & Evernote SURVIVE on this model. Here are some of the technologies that exist that honestly shouldn’t and some of its appropriate alternatives you should try if you want to utilize modern technology.

Paper

Purists writers, put your pitchforks down and hear me out. Yes I understand that there are multiple uses for paper such as paper plates, paper cups and so on and so on. I am actually talking about paper to write on. With all the traditions and emotional attachments to paper aside, its simply put: Dated! We don’t really need it any more. We can type everything and always have perfect spelling, grammar, and even handwriting (technically not so, but you see what im saying). It’s also cost effective. If you have a computer, you essentially have almost an infinite amount of “paper” to write on called “documents”! Now for the alternatives: Check out the apps DropBox & Evernote. I can totally understand that carrying around a laptop isn’t really a realistic expectation for students some times. The apps DropBox & Evernote allow you to always have that information ready to use wherever you go. Literally. If you have a laptop, tablet, computer, PC, Desktop, or even phone… you are able to utilize this technology! So lets go easy on the trees guys. Welcome to the 21st century.

Fax Machines

I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked to “fax something” and it bugged the hell out of me. I actually have to hold my tongue because everytime I hear something like this. It makes me want to scream and go on a rant. Can we please just move on? E-mail has been so mainstreamed that there are even people that shouldn’t have an email have access to emails. That’s when you know how popular something is. When not everyone should have one… but they do anyway. Faxing is such a pain. Just SCAN IT + EMAIL IT!

Landlines

office phone

My grandma is gonna hate this one. There are so many things wrong with this I don’t even know how to begin. Let’s just talk about security for starters. When a burglar tries to get into your home and they want to make sure cops have nothing to do with what they are about to do, what do they do? They cut the phone lines! The electricity doesn’t really do anything but scare people. The landline is what they want. Some stupid home security companies even have landlines tied to their system. What good does that do? Don’t bother with these home securities systems – instead, find a company offering wireless systems that send data via broadband or via the mobile network. Luckily I actually have found a home alarm monitoring company that uses ONLY CELL DATA. How amazing is that? So please ditch the phone line and get a cell phone.

Thank you for all the companies that are ditching dated technologies and adapting new ones!
