Beginner quests are a great place for you to start out in Old School Runescape.

Are you completely new to Old School Runescape? Still getting your head around raising skill levels, or the best ways to make OSRS GP? Then you should consider taking part in some beginner quests. One of the easier quests in the game is known as Sheep Shearer, and has little requirements to get through it, so don’t worry about whipping out your Twisted Bow to deal with it.

Getting Started

For this quest, we will need either 20 balls of wool or shears to get wool. As for the quest itself, it seems that Fred the Farmer’s sheep are starting to get a little too woolly. As you have probably guessed by now, your job will be to shear them.

Speak with Fred the Farmer, who you will find north of Lumbridge at the sheep farm. You will be tasked with bringing 20 balls of wool to him. You can head to the general store to buy 20 balls of wool if you wish, and you won’t need to find OSRS gold for sale in order to afford it. Just go to the Grand Exchange or even Aemad’s Adventuring Supplies. Once you have them, give them to Fred the Farmer back at his farm.

Shearing the Sheep

Don’t worry if you haven’t got any shears handy, as Fred will provide you with some if needed. With shears in hand, head into the fenced plot where the sheep are over by the house. Use the shears on the sheep to get started. You will see the difference in which ones are woolly and those that are skinny. They may run away if you do try to shear them, so perseverance is key.

You will have to then spin your 20 pieces of wool to make them into wool. On the first floor of Lumbridge Castle to find the spinning wheel. Click on it to start spinning your wool, then take them back to Fred to complete the quest. Don’t panic if you run out of room in your inventory. If you wish, you can take a few at a time and go back and forth so that you aren’t filling up your inventory too much.

There are a few things for you to look out for when sheep shearing. Fred the Farmer will warn you regarding The Thing, which is a sheep you can talk to. Once you do so, you will discover that they are in fact two penguins in disguise. They are from the Cold War quest, and will flee if you try to shear them. If you want to learn more about this, you can speak with Fred about them. Another thing to watch out for is rams. As you can imagine, rams look a lot like sheep, with the obvious exception that the rams have horns. If you left-click on them, you will start attacking them. They can’t be sheared, so just try and avoid them altogether.

Quest Rewards

For finishing this quest, you will get 60 coins, 150 Crafting XP and one Quest Point for your troubles. It might not seem like much, but it is a great place to start in questing.

About this Quest

The reason why the Sheep Shearer quest is great for beginners who are just starting out on their journey in OSRS is that it is one of the faster quests to complete. Along with the likes of Imp Catcher, Doric’s Quest and Cook’s Assistant, it is up there with the quickest to finish as long as you don’t have your inventory full. If you have the room for the required items, then you will be flying through the quest in no time.

The Sheep Shearer quest is actually one of the earliest quests in the entire game. It was available at the launch of the game along with five other quests that players could take part in. As a matter of fact, the quest is technically considered the oldest in the entire game if you look into where it began its origins in the development cycle.

So, get yourself started on your journey to OSRS gold and glory with Sheep Shearer. This will ease you into the game, and you won’t have to worry about having to buy OSRS gold to progress through it. Simply grab your shears and head over to the sheep farm to get started in a piece of history in Old School Runescape’s history.
