With the NFL playoffs on the horizon and Super Bowl LVI coming in February, now is the best time to bet on NFL games. You can look at NFL Stats to find out which team is worth betting your money on. You can wager on bet types like the point spread, totals (which are also known as over/unders), and the moneyline. Some other NFL betting types include NFL futures, game and player props, parlays, teasers, and live betting.
Point Spread
A point spread is a bet on the margin of victory within a game. The stronger team/player will be favored by a certain number of points. If there’s a minus sign (-) that signifies the specific team is a favorite. Likewise, if there’s a plus sign (+) that team is an underdog. An example would be the Philadelphia Eagles (-5.5) at New York Giants (+5.5).
Totals
The over/unders for every game represent the total number of points scored in a certain game. If more points are scored than the game’s total, the bettors who waged on the over would win.
Moneyline
Unlike the previous two, a moneyline bet is the simplest and most straightforward form of betting in all of sports. Essentially, it’s a bet that has either two or three outcomes depending on the sport. When there are two players or teams listed on a moneyline bet, the bettors choose one player or team to win.
NFL Futures
With these types of bets, a person can bet on who will win each of the NFL Conferences and each of the 8 divisions. Those lines aren’t available 24/7, but Superbowl odds never sleep.
Game and Player Props
Player props are bets that are placed on a player’s performance in either a single game or throughout the whole season. For example, if you decide to bet on Travis Kelce over 91.5 yards, he would need to have at least 92 receiving yards to win your bet. If you want to place a bet on something that aligns more with moneyline, you might bet on Nick Chubb to score a touchdown against the Steelers (+180). If that were to happen, you’d win $180 on a $100 bet.
Parlays
A parlay is a type of wager that combines multiple bets in order to create a greater payout. For example, if a bettor were to wager $100 on a 3-team parlay with the Rams (+150), Titans (+100) and Chiefs (+203), the payout would be $1,515.
Teasers
A teaser is a variation of the parlay bet. It allows the bettor to move the point spread or over/under a certain amount of points in their favor. However, multiple bets need to be tied together as part of the overall teaser. Additionally, all of the wagers that are involved must win in order for the teaser bet to win.
Live Betting
Some bettors find this type of betting fun as it allows them to bet during the game while it is happening. The in-game odds usually only change during a timeout or commercial break. At that point, the bettor has a chance to change their bet or either place a new one.
The NFL of course isn’t the only sport that is enjoyable for betting. One can bet on virtually any sport.
