When you’re starting a new business, it’s important to make sure you have a professionally designed logo that will properly communicate the image and values that represent what you do. There are plenty of options to get a logo design online, from design studios that can charge thousands of dollars, to logo contests for a few hundred, to free logo generators with galleries of clipart. So how do you get an original logo design when you’re working on a budget? You can find some middle ground at 48hourslogo.com. It’s a different kind of crowd-sourcing logo contest site with strict guidelines to make sure entrepreneurs get professional logo designs within their budget.
Let’s take a look at Laura, of Sweet Lavender Cakes, for an example of how to do this the right way.
She started a contest with just $100.00. This allows two days for designers to submit designs. She filled out the brief, and included designs she liked from the 48hourslogo Gallery, plus a couple samples she found online. During her research, Laura found a designer whose work she liked, ingepro, and invited her to the contest. With plenty of samples of what she liked, designs started to come in. After giving some detailed and thorough feedback, she ranked the frontrunners. Once time for the Qualifying Stage was up, Laura selected three finalists so they could make a few final variations for her, among them ingepro. With the changes in and everything to consider, Laura chose the final entry made by ingepro. Here are some submission she made during the contest and the eventual winner:
Here’s what Laura had to say about her experience:
“Absolutely awesome. I requested ingepro as I had seen her work and like the amount of input she and in the competition. She did not disappoint me… She is dedicated to giving you what you want and puts the effort into it… Your service was exceptional and the reason why I’ll recommend and be back to 48hourslogo. Thank you!”

Jesus wept, $100 to work on a logo?
Its not a hobby, its a job. If this price is what clients come to expect then design will eventually eat itself with designers themselves taking the largest bites out of their own butts.
We’re doomed!
I agree with Keith. Website services like this simply dumb down a profession to the lowest common denominator. Any real pro willing to work for $100 for so many designs was never frankly a pro. And by the way, you do get what you pay for. In my humble opinion, the “logo” you ended up with looks like clip art with a lousy font. There is one marketing solution doing it right. MODsocket.com. Real professionals with real experience and talent.
