Web Design Trends We Should Expect to See in 2021

Web Design trends 2021

2020 wasn’t an easy year to say the least. Tons of Zoom meetings, gallons of hand sanitiser and a whole lot of anxiety due to the economic uncertainty caused by COVID-19. Despite the awful situation, we all did our best to make it through even though it seems 2021 could be a write off too. Many of us learnt new skills with the time saved from commuting while some just watched Tiger King over and over. We all have different coping mechanisms, and that’s totally fine!

When it comes to web design, we kept a close eye of the continually evolving trends. But after speaking with Revive.Digital who specialise in web design in Essex, we thought we’d create this guide on what some of the trends are going to be this year.

3D Visuals

With better technology and higher-res screens, 3D design has come a long way over the past few years. Many companies and digital marketing agencies now use 3D visuals that are perfectly weaved into the design of their websites. The best thing about 3D visuals is that they’re not distractions, they add to the overall user experience.

Multimedia

With people having faster internet speeds, new multimedia experiences are popping up left right and centre. Bringing visuals, audio, and video together makes for a much better user experience.

Dark Mode

A big trend in 2020, especially amongst the social media networks was dark mode, and this is set to continue into 2021. Here are some of the reasons why web developers and graphic designs like dark mode:

  • Despite it looking like it says on the tin, Dark More looks really modern.
  • It allows other design elements to stand out.
  • It reduces a user’s eye-strain when they’re in low-light conditions.
  • It actually saves device power. Bet you didn’t know that?

Smarter Content Loading

Now, this is a particularly interesting one that goes beyond design and into web development too. There are thousands of websites out there that are far too heavy on third-party integrations and graphic elements. Both of these can slow a website down, damage user experience and negatively affect SEO.

Nowadays, however, there are many ways to develop websites that only download and display content that a user needs to see. This is known in the digital marketing industry as “smart content loading”.

Voice Search Interfaces

The way we all access information on the internet is constantly changing and the way we search is a perfect example. Instead of typing our search queries into Google, we’re now making vocal demands via our phones and smart speakers.

This means that web design needs to keep up with the changing world of virtual assistants and voice chatbots. Whilst this trend hasn’t truly taken off just yet, it’s certainly not going anywhere in the future, that’s for sure.

A Mixture of Graphics and Photography

Another huge trend set to dominate 2021 will be combining graphics and photography. Of course, high-quality photographs look brilliant on their own but adding graphics can help businesses showcase their creative flairs.

Unusual Colours

One of this year’s biggest web design trends is going to be the use of unusual and bold colour combinations. This will help brands stand out from the minimalist designs that we’ve seen become popular in the last few years. But, to succeed by making the most of this trend, don’t be afraid to try out new things like unusual pairing and intense colours.

Micro Interactions

Micro interactions are small animations that are designed to offer subtle feedback to users on a website. We’re all used to visiting a website and seeing a link change colour when we hover over one, but with micro interactions, user experience is vastly improved. It can also help your business stand out from your competitors too. So, it’s worth making the most of micro interactions on your own website.

Use a Digital Marketing Agency If You Need To!

This year, we expect to see a plethora of different web design trends, and by making the most of them, you can positively impact your brand and bring in new business. But, if you don’t have the in-house expertise, then we recommend using a digital marketing agency like Revive.Digital based in Essex. They’re a full-service agency and have a team that can make all of these web design trends a reality for you and your business.
