When you are heading out for a walk or run, you probably have your gear, clothes and shoes ready to go but one thing you may be forgetting is a pair of sunglasses. Whether it’s the harsh summer sun rays or the pleasure of rain or snow, we quickly reach for hats or apply sunscreen but often we neglect to offer the same protection to our eyes.

It is necessary for walkers and runners to wear sunglasses for two reasons-visual comfort and ocular health. To keep your eyes healthy and protect the eyes and the skin around the eyes from UV light it is recommended to use sunglasses. Cataracts, wrinkles, yellow growth in the white of the eye is called pinguecula and growths on the eyelids can be caused by UV rays. Most of these problems do not show up until you are older but it is the damage you are doing now day by day and it may lead to eye health issues later in life.

Walkers or runners should look for sunglasses that fit well,  and are big enough to  provide a good coverage around your eyes. You don’t like them bouncing or sliding down your face when you are exercising. Many people prefer lightweight sunglasses for running. You should make sure the lenses block  UV rays, so that you are fully protected. Very cheap lenses have very poor optics and will not offer proper UV protection or the same clarity as good quality lenses provide.

Some people prefer a dark tint in sunny weather whereas others prefer a tinted lens Along with the tint, polarized lenses make vision sharper and more comfortable as they do a great job in reducing glare off horizontal surfaces like snow, water and pavements for daytime vision.
